What are elements of Self-Esteem? How important it is to have a high self-esteem before you speak in Public? How much a ‘yes, I can do’ attitude helps you to learn anything faster? How do you see English adding to your self-esteem inventory? One thing is sure, you grow professionally when you have higher confidence and good communication skills. It helps you in more than one way…. to have a higher self-esteem! Good news is that anyone can gain confidence to speak in public irrespective of the background or sex. Girls generally get their self-esteem through their good looks, cloths, accessories or jewellery, manners and how well they are able to relate with others (emotional strengths or more in a one-to-one talk) . Boys on the other hand tend to have puffed-up chests when they are questioned on their intelligence, mathematical abilities, risk-taking nature, global outlook, views and physical strengths. They are more prepared to set-out on a dare. These are as the society describes our public behaviors. Our family background, state we belong to, India as country with richness of culture and heritage are all the sources of self-esteem. When we get compliments for our knowledge, skills and abilities we possess we gain on the self-esteem. the higher the gain when the person who gives us this complement is a close associate or the boss. On the other hand when we are rebuked upon by someone when we did our best, our self-esteem does get hurt. But we bring it back by self-consolation that ‘we tried our best’. On the other hand, when in reality we were not work hard-enough (just gave it a half heart-ed try!) and therefore we failed, we do not kick ourselves and even the rebukes of the family members are take lightly. How much you believe in Luck or God to help you or do you follow a definitive self-chosen path to spirituality also has some result on what you feel about your self-worth.
